Reconstruction of the building will also take time. The powerloom unit was spread over the ground and first floor of the building Aam Manzil in a residential locality of Nagaon in Bhiwandi. My son who was looking out of the window saw the smoke and fire and alerted me. At least 70,000 metres of cloth material were kept in the first-floor room of the powerloom unit which caught fire immediately. According to the police, a short circuit had caused the fire. Some of us from the second and third floor managed to escape, but many could not as the fire had spread to the staircase and other areas. At least 62 families in Bhiwandi were rendered homeless after a major fire broke out in a powerloom godown situated on the ground floor of their four-storey residential building around 7 am on Tuesday. Two women have been admitted to the hospital due to suffocation and were discharged in the evening. DCP of Bhiwandi Sudhir Dabhade said, “The local corporators and fire brigade called an ambulance and eight water tanks to control the fire. “We asked all residents to shut their cylinders and electricity. Then four of us went up to the second floor of the building to rescue people. With the help of a crane, they then rescued 250 residents in two hours, the police said.Some of the families have taken shelter with their relatives while others are still hunting for temporary accomodation. The blaze soon spread to the other floors, sending the residents scurrying in panic.”Mr Dabhade said the police was probing the actual cause of fire and would register a complaint against the owner of the powerloom godown..”The fire brigade officials arrived on the spot within 10 minutes after fire started and asked the trapped residents to China Nitrile Rubber Hoses move to the terrace.
